The History of Threadbear

Threadbear opened its doors in March 1992 and resides in a gracious brick building that housed a bakery in the 1870s in Central Victoria in Australia. This is very fitting as we specialise in reproduction fabrics from that era.

Also in keeping with this time in history is the fact that this building is shared with Castlemaine Antiques, owned & operated by my partner, Kurt who specialises in stocking, restoring and reproducing Australian country furniture.

My personal history of stitching started with my grandmothers, Nellie and Dora, teaching me the basics of embroidery when I was a child.  Nellie was a little messy with her stitchery while Dora was quite tidy and a prolific quilter.  I think I inherited a bit from each and hope they are both keeping an eye on me from above.
