Clarissa
A Mariner's Compass quilt in The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation archives inspired most of the fabrics in this Williamsburg's Clarissa. Made in the mid-1800s by Clarissa Dodge Marschalk, probably in New York, the exquisite original was created with 16 blocks, each containing a 32-point compass within a quilted circle. The blocks are separated by bands of glazed chintz and the outer border is a wide glazed floral chintz. Clarissa's work is exceptionally fine and her color choices of blues, yellow, browns, and pinks provide a beautiful aesthetic. $23.50 per metre
